Going through the rounds

While the actors and directors do the first run through, the design team and band going from team to team trying to figure what they’ll need for each show. The fourth play needs a tattoo, a power tie, a biker jacket (or a Judd Nelson trench coat) and some semen in a cooler. The second and fourth will probably need the same table, but they also need to find some sensible flats in a women’s 14 and figure out if […]

Flashback to 9 AM

There’s too much to write about what’s going on here, so sometimes you need to write in retrospect. So flash back with me to 9 am this morning. Maybe you were still asleep, but the bleary eyed writers of 1448 were anxiously waiting for the director draw. The second night was harder for the writers. The first night seemed to be a more difficult theme, but the second night had the built in obstacle of already being exhausted at the […]

we’re putting ‘The Band’ back together…

The draw is done. The scripts are in hand. Now comes the big question: What does the Band do? Each band member reads one of the plays, They then take that play on as their assignment, They divide up, find the directors somewhere in the big building, They ask the director: What is the mood they are trying to create? What is the play’s setting? Is there a specific song they want? Is there any foley of sound cues in […]

Before the Actors

The second morning for 14/48 dawned bright and (maybe a little too early) for the writers. They submitted their plays at 8 o’clock this morning. Now the directors are talking with the caffeinating writers to figure out as much about the plays as they can before the actor draw. “”Drawing the actors will change how you see everything” said director Pamala Mijatov. After getting her “cerebral” and sometimes “cryptic” play by Scot Augustson, she’s still trying to figure out whether […]
