“We’re doing cone-free Saturday!” Regarding a certain Mazen Award recipient’s fashion aesthetic: “Business cholo” “I tried to put on my bra from yesterday and I could just, like, smell yesterday.” “Can I have a shot of that?” “Trumpkin” “I like Burbank. Burbank is nice.” Is there a little plastic bag anywhere? Somebody let their dog poop in our rehearsal space and I need to pick it up.” “I’ll probably be blacklisted when Jodi gets his cellular bill.” “Nothin’. I got nothin’.” […]

Tonight’s theme is “Count Your Blessings”. The change in the weather qualifies as a blessing, doesn’t it? We had some medium-rare theater geeks out here yesterday afternoon, folks, and an overburdened water dispenser. With today’s refreshingly overcast skies and cool breeze, we’ll find out tonight the precise effect of removing sweat – or of drastically reducing it, at least – from the 14/48 Outdoors recipe. There is always a uniquely uncanny magic to 14/48 writer-director-cast draws but today, dear readers, the spirits have really outdone themselves. Opening night’s opening show has come and gone! Here’s a woefully incomplete list of stuff that happened in Act II: More astronomy, a tearjerker, a Das Racist parody, bald jokes, avant-garde Aretha, one hell of a caution sign, “Psycho Killer”, and the Cone of Destiny. OH YEAH, THE CONE OF DESTINY!!! Stay tuned for Saturday’s theme…
Somehow, incredibly, the apparent chaos of the last 24 hours is, moments from now, going to coalesce into a structured performance of seven stories never before told. Dozens of human hearts are about to focus their intention into making an experience which may well effect a greater capacity for empathy in all present. This is how we shape our future. This is how we change the world.
“I have a collection of weird things.” Something something “Craftsman”. Something something “sawhorse”. “Trash bag or blanket.” “Everybody has my phone number.” “Who’s doing the pink stuff?” “Helium is expensive.” “I have to go to Fred Meyer for cookies and cupcakes and shit, anyway.”
“Can someone teach me how to separate trash? ‘Cause we don’t do that in DC.” “Ok, let’s try Big Dipper again.” “Let’s put the second house here then you can kick it.” “A lot of your status as a kid is your physical size.” “Take those stereotypes all the way.” “She’s everything.” “It’s like you’re trying to get away from something.” “It’s more of an exploring of the space.” “Oh yeah, you’re not gonna have mics. Eff that. Cut it.” […]
